The Three Things I Do Every Morning To Build Muscle and Lose Fat

Early AM is the perfect time to get a jump on your muscle building and fat loss efforts.  Here are the 3 things that I do each morning to prepare my mind and body for muscle building and fat loss.

1. One Push-up for every year of age

Every morning, I do one pushup for every year of age that I am.  For me, this is 35 Pushups.  This helps me get mentally focused on what lies ahead of me.  I use these push-ups to jump-start my heart rate. Every push-up I do, I say “Champion” to myself, to remind me what’s at stake, what I am fighting for.



2. Drink 1 Glass of Water

Every morning, I drink at least 20 ounces of water.  Upon waking up, it’s important to get water back into the body.  Throughout the night, you are slowly dehydrating (through sweating).  It’s important to put that water back into your body, getting oxygen into your cells.  Being hydrating will keep you looking and feeling healthy.

3. Eat 1 serving of Lean Protein

After I do my push-ups and drink my water, I have one serving of lean protein.  When you sleep, your body essentially goes into a fast (hence the name of the first meal of the day, Break-fast), and I like to break that fast with lean protein.  Protein helps protect and build muscle when you are working out consistently.  When you wake up in the morning, your body desires nutrition.  The best early morning nutrition to give your body is 1 serving of protein.  Lean protein (high protein/ low bad fat) consist of eggs, egg whites, whey protein, casein protein, skinless chicken or a low-carb protein bar.
